Introducing the SharePoint Editorial Card Web Part
The Editorial Card web part is a new feature in SharePoint designed to enhance content presentation on Pages and News. Unlike automated web parts like News and Events, the Editorial Card allows for manual customization, giving designers more control over how content is displayed. This web part showcases content in an engaging card format, which can capture viewers’ attention and enhance the visual appeal of the page.
Use Cases for the Editorial Card Web Part
The Editorial Card is perfect for scenarios where you need to tailor the presentation of content to specific needs. For example, you can use it to highlight key announcements, feature articles, or any other content that requires a unique layout. With advanced customization options, you can configure backgrounds and content to align with your desired aesthetic and functional goals.
This makes it ideal for creating visually appealing sections on your SharePoint pages. The card format is designed to be eye-catching, which can help increase user engagement with the content. This is particularly useful for internal communications, marketing campaigns, or any other scenario where you want to draw attention to specific information.
How to Add the Editorial Card Web Part to a Page
Adding the Editorial Card web part to your SharePoint page is a straightforward process. Follow these steps:
- Navigate to the SharePoint page where you want to add the Editorial Card web part.
- Click on the “Edit” button at the top right corner of the page.
- If needed, add a new section to your page by clicking on the “+” icon and selecting the desired layout.
- Click on the “+” icon within the section where you want to add the web part. In the web part menu, search for “Editorial Card” and select it.
Configure the Editorial Card Web Part
The Editorial Card web part offers a lot of flexibility in customization, allowing you to create a unique and engaging presentation.
The text is written directly in the web part, and it offers text formatting options such as font size, color, styles, and spacing. This allows you to tailor the appearance of your content to match your desired look and feel.

- Section Name: Add an optional section name to organize your content.
- Headline: Create a compelling headline to draw attention.
- Description: Provide a brief description to give more context.
- Call to Action: Add a call to action to encourage user interaction. This can be a button with configurable text, an icon, just text, or the entire card can be clickable. Unlike the other text areas in the card, the text for the button must be defined in the settings of the web part.
- Image: Customize the card with an image of your choice.
- Background: Configure the background to use a solid color inherited from the theme applied to the site or a custom image.
Layout Options
There are three available layout options for the Editorial Card web part:
- Image Overlay: A light or dark overlay is displayed on top of the image with the possibility to define the opacity.
- Color Block: Adds a light or dark overlay as a box to highlight the text.
- Split: Splits the card vertically on narrow sections or horizontally on large sections with the image displayed on top/left and the text at the bottom/right. The section name is displayed on top of the image, and the rest of the text is displayed on the color block that can be configured with one of the available colors inherited from the theme applied to the site.
Each layout allows the alignment of the text to be set to left, center, or right, and also vertical alignment to the top, center, bottom, or to distribute the content vertically within the card.

After configuring the web part, click on “Save as draft” to save your changes or “Publish” to make the page live.
By leveraging these features, you can create dynamic and visually appealing SharePoint pages that effectively communicate your message and engage your audience.
