What’s new for SharePoint – June 2024
As the northern hemisphere welcomes the beginning of summer, many of us start to wind down and head off on our well-deserved holidays to soak up the good weather. However, one thing that is not showing any signs of slowing down is the roll-out of new features and announcements for SharePoint. In June 2024, we’ve seen a lot of new options for content editors that promise to revolutionize how pages are created.
Viva Amplify, in particular, has received the largest batch of updates since its release. These enhancements aim to streamline workflows and improve user experience, ensuring that SharePoint continues to be a leading platform for content management and collaboration. Viva Amplify: Easier to find your most recent templates
Updates to the Viva Amplify template display include showing the most recently modified templates on the campaign overview page for easy access and separating the Viva Amplify provided templates from the user-saved campaign templates.
Viva Amplify: Introducing content pane
The content pane is a new place for relevant panes that help authors create their publications. With the introduction of this centralized location, a new toolbox will help authors quickly browse and add content to create rich and engaging pages. The content pane will include additional panes such as configuration tools and design ideas. Within Viva Amplify, the content pane is used to host the distribution channel selection, writing guidance, and audience selection.
Viva Amplify: Improved authoring experience
This updates the Viva Amplify editors for both Outlook and Teams distribution channels to improve previewing and editing. These updates will provide improvements to load time and create a coherent audience selection experience across the channels.
SharePoint: eSignature sequential signing
Sequential signing enables the creator of an eSignature request to specify the sequence of recipients. The document is first signed by the initial recipient in the sequence, then forwarded to the subsequent recipient for their signature. This process continues in the designated order until every recipient has added their signature. Once everyone has signed, the signed document is made available to all involved.

Viva Amplify: Support for SharePoint audience targeting
When publishing to one or multiple SharePoint sites from within Viva Amplify, you can now promote the news post to specific audiences by indicating security groups, Microsoft 365 groups, or AAD dynamic groups.
Syntex: Page range setting for prebuilt and structured models
This creates a new setting for prebuilt (contract, invoice, and receipt) and structured/freeform models to specify the file pages to be processed.
SharePoint: Apply shapes to images
SharePoint Online will soon introduce a feature allowing users to apply shapes like square, circle, triangle, hexagon, pebble, and teardrop to images in Image and Text web parts. Rollout begins mid-April 2024 and ends early June 2024. No admin action is needed before the rollout.

When publishing to one or multiple SharePoint sites from within Viva Amplify, you can now promote the news post to specific audiences by indicating security groups, Microsoft 365 groups, or AAD dynamic groups.
SharePoint: Enhancements to Text web part (Part 1)
SharePoint Text web part is being enhanced with expanded font size support, additional bullet and numbered list styles, and custom list capabilities. Rollout starts mid-May 2024, with all page authors gaining these features automatically. Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID: 394278.

Clipchamp: Brand kit – Extended elements and tenant-wide rollout
Brand kit enables anyone to create and share brand asset collections including colors, fonts, and logos to easily apply brand elements while creating. This release adds support for images, backgrounds, stickers, video, and audio asset types. An organization’s official assets can now be rolled out tenant-wide via SharePoint Organization Asset Libraries (OAL). Brand kit creation, sharing, and manual usage is being made generally available to all Clipchamp for work accounts for users with standard access.
SharePoint eSignature: Coming soon to Canada, UK, and selected European countries
Microsoft SharePoint eSignature service will soon expand to the UK, Canada, and select European countries. It enables requesting eSignatures on PDFs via SharePoint online, with signed documents securely saved back to SharePoint. Rollout begins mid-August 2024 and should complete by end of September 2024.

Retiring Stream (Classic) Tab on Teams Chat/Channel
Starting July 10, 2024, the Stream (Classic) Tab will be retired from Teams Chat/Channel, with a full rollout expected by early August 2024. Users are advised to prepare for this change, which requires no admin action but should be communicated to relevant parties.

SharePoint is introducing coauthoring for Pages and News, allowing multiple authors to edit simultaneously with real-time changes. It’s associated with Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 124853, starting late June 2024 for Targeted Release and early August 2024 for General Availability. No admin action is required for the rollout.

Change in attachment links in Viva Engage messages to SharePoint location for eDiscovery
Viva Engage messages’ attachment links will be changed to SharePoint locations for better eDiscovery integration. This update, starting late June 2024 and completing by mid-July 2024, will make attachments appear with messages in eDiscovery review sets, aligning with other products and improving reliability. Organizations using eDiscovery should update their training and documentation.
SharePoint News connector retires July 22, 2024
The SharePoint News connector in Microsoft Teams will retire on July 22, 2024. Users should transition to alternatives like Viva Connections News notifications, Viva Amplify, or Teams Workflow. New connectors cannot be created after July 22, 2024, and existing ones will retire starting August 26, 2024. No admin action is required, but preparation steps are recommended.

Viva Connections: Refreshed Resources section on mobile to align with desktop
The Microsoft Viva Connections Resources section on mobile will be updated to match the desktop version, ensuring consistency of navigational links across devices. This feature allows tenant admins to create a card for a playlist to be accessed from the Viva Connections Dashboard.
Viva Amplify: Access to most recent templates
Microsoft Viva Amplify is updating template access. User-created templates will appear in the first three positions on the campaign overview page, with the most recent template first. Additional templates can be managed under ‘View all templates.’ Rollout began mid-June 2024 and will complete by end-June 2024. This update is part of Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 398978.
Clipchamp: The Brand kit feature is rolling out with extended elements to Microsoft subscriptions
The Microsoft Clipchamp Brand kit feature is being added to certain Microsoft subscriptions, allowing users to create, share, and use collections of brand assets. It will roll out between mid-July and late August 2024 for users with specific licenses, and it will support extended elements. No admin action is required before the rollout.
SharePoint Embed Support for Teams town hall
Users can now embed Teams town halls in the SharePoint sites they manage. This capability allows town hall attendees to watch the event instance within a particular SharePoint site.

SharePoint: “Remove-SPOExternalUser” retires starting July 29, 2024
The “Remove-SPOExternalUser” PowerShell cmdlet for SharePoint Online will retire on July 29, 2024. Users should transition to the “Remove-AzureADUser” cmdlet and update workflows to avoid disruption. Further details and guidance are available at Microsoft Learn.
Legacy SharePoint Invitation Manager PowerShell cmdlets have retired
The SharePoint Online Management Shell’s cmdlets for the legacy SharePoint Invitation Manager have been retired, with no further use for external sharing scenarios. Organizations can no longer use specific properties for ‘Set-SPOTenant’ related to legacy external invitations, and no admin action is required.
Microsoft OneDrive: Change to shared folder experience
Microsoft OneDrive is updating its shared folder experience. Users will now access shared folders via the People view in their own OneDrive, organized by the sharer, starting late July 2024. This change requires no admin action but users should be informed. More details are on the Microsoft 365 Roadmap ID 395378.
